The Serpents have begun talking about Charles Darwin and how animals adapt to their environment. To demonstrate adaptation they made models of small and large beaks and investigated which was better adapted to large and small seeds as seen in the 13 varieties of Galapagos Island finches.
After discussing the process of fossilization the Serpents simulated their own fossils using plaster, sand, shells and other objects. After the plaster dried they got to work being paleontologists and extracted the fossils from the "rock" matrix. A fun and educational simulation.
The Serpents took their first turn in the school garden harvesting apples, potatoes and pulling weeds. It was dirty and sweaty but a lot of fun and next up is cooking!
